Doctor Who Game
To most people, a game is any structured form of entertainment, usually undertaken for fun or entertainment, and at times used as an educational resource. Games are quite different from work, which traditionally is carried out for monetary gain, and from F95ZONE literature, which is almost always an expressive expression of cultural or artistic elements. Game design and development has grown dramatically in recent years, with the growth of computer-based consoles, handheld game devices, video games, digital or online-based games and various types of interactivity. It has also become more important than ever to have good game designs and the tools to create them.
The first prototype for a game came about in the mid-to late 1970s, when the game Doctor Who was created by BBC Wales. It featured a spherical Doctor, whose head was surrounded by a dome of transparent plastic material, containing a number of control mechanisms, including a door and a locking mechanism. Using a set of computer programs, the Doctor could manipulate objects within the sphere, while battling against the monsters that were controlled by the Doctor’s enemies and friends.
A decade later, another early computer program, called Quack, saw the rise of an animated Doctor who operated on an planet called Balzaroo. This time, the Doctor was programmed not to use his hands, but rather, touch the screen using some sort of finger. This concept led to the game we know today as AC/DC game (after the band, of course). Chris Crawford was the original artist, responsible for the colorful images that appeared on the game’s screen. The game design evolved over the years, with new versions hitting the market each year, until it was completely revolutionized with the release of the Doctor Who video game and its sequel, Doctor Who: The Eternity War.
When playing a Doctor Who game, players will be forced to choose between the good and evil paths. Each level is composed of three acts, each featuring three missions, that must be completed in order to move on to the next area. The first act usually involves battling the Zygor, a creature that has the ability to hypnotize others. In order to defeat this creature, the Doctor must avoid his victims and regenerate, often fighting his way through a room filled with traps and monsters along the way. The player can regenerate after regenerating throughout the game, so long as they have health left over to do so. If the Doctor runs out of lives during the course of one play session, he has to start the whole process over again.
In the last act, the Doctor faces off against the Master, a Time Lord with magical abilities similar to those of the Doctor. The combat is quite different, with each participant choosing a type of weapon and a certain number of health points per round. Once the time expires, whoever has more health at the end of the round wins. Winning requires skill, luck, timing, and strategy, and if the Doctor doesn’t get these things going on his first couple of plays, he might find himself trapped and killed by the Master. If this happens, the game will end right there, and the player has to restart from the beginning, starting their adventure all over again.
